So, it's been reported here and here that Mike Lowell has been traded to the Rangers in exchange for catcher Max Ramirez. The deal is preliminary and the Red Sox are probably going to be eating some as yet undetermined (but supposedly large) amount of his salary ( Read more... )

Here's the official press release, dated today at 4:55 pm.BOSTON -- The Boston Red Sox today agreed to terms with third baseman Mike Lowell on a three-year contract extending through the 2010 season. No further terms were disclosed.

The announcement was made by Executive Vice President/General Manager Theo Epstein.

Buster Olney is saying that Mike Lowell is likely to sign a three year deal within the next couple of days. The Boston Globe however reported this morning that no progress has been made in contract talks. I tend to think that Olney is more reliable, but you guys and gals can decide for yourselves.

My husband and I were watching WBZ this morning when we heard a quick blurb that said, "Peter Gammons reports that Yankees have taken their offer off the table." Of course, we've searched the internet and only found a blog on the Joy of Sox. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

There has been mass speculation as to where Lowell may be headed. But what's been lost of all of it however, is that most of it is made up.
